Tips for Alleviating Winter Dry Scalp
Dry scalp is common this time of year. We spend more time indoors with central or electric heat which keeps us warm but inevitably zaps moisture from our scalp. Unfortunately, this leads to dryness which causes white flakes and sometimes itchiness.
I personally experience this every year mostly around my front hairline.
Here are some tips that work for me.
I don’t wash my hair more than twice per week. I want to keep as much of the natural oils my body produces as possible. I choose to use a cleansing cream for washing because my hair is on the dryer side. If you haven’t used a cleansing cream, it is a gentler clean. It does not strip your hair and scalp like traditional shampoos, my go to is Lure Soft As Cashmere Cleansing Cream. This cleansing cream is loaded with natural oils and essential oils that benefit not only your hair but scalp as well.
Every third or fourth wash I like to use Oribe Serene Scalp Shampoo and Conditioner. These products contain Salicylic Acid which gently exfoliate the scalp. If you prefer shampoo over a cleansing cream these are fine to use every time you wash, it's personal preference.
Lure Early Riser Base Spray contains Menthol Crystals which are refreshing and great for dry scalp. You can use this as a pre-wash treatment misting generously on your scalp and give your scalp a good rub with your finger- tips. It will help to lubricate and loosen flakes prior to washing. You can also lightly mist after washing to give a fresh tingling sensation and for added moisturizing.
In between washes Oribe Serene Scalp Leave-On-Treatment is a game changer! It’s super easy to apply with its applicator tip, just draw it on your scalp, rub in with your fingers and carry on with styling. You can use it on wet or dry hair. I tend to use it on days I don’t wash. And just touch up my hair with a blow-dryer and brush. I absolutely love it!
Last but not least, I use Lure Head In the Clouds Volumizing Powder which also acts as a dry shampoo. This keeps my hair and scalp fresh in between washes. This all-natural product contains Cedarwood Atlas essential oil which is calming, anti-fungal and effective for balancing greasy and or flaky scalp conditions. Kaolin Clay is also gentle on sensitive scalps and not drying. This product does not leave build up on your scalp.
I hope you find these tips helpful.
